Megan Reed is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist who got her Master's in Science from Loyola University Maryland in 2014. She has devoted her professional career to working with infants and toddlers and their families to help improve daily life and help support speech and language development. She has worked with a variety of clients including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Phonological and Articulation Disorders, and Receptive-Expressive Language Delays. Services are offered to children 18 months to 5 years in the New Braunfels, Texas area.
Little Joys is a private-pay only practice. Keeping this practice small and self-pay allows for the provision of highly personalized services for each individual child without limitations given by insurance.
Speech and language therapy is administered through play and natural interactions in comfortable and known environments (i.e. in-home and daycare). Parent communication and involvement is a crucial part in seeing positive changes at home.
Exposing young children to a language enriched environment and providing tools to help little ones say their first words, ask for their wants and needs, and understand simple directions and interactions with others. You will see your child increase their confidence and enjoy learning through play.
Speech sessions will focus on improving communication skills, whether through early simple signs, spoken words, or pictures. Your little one will gain skills in imitation, requesting, and interacting.
Therapy will also help improve understanding of language, i.e. following simple directions, identifying common objects and body parts.
Sessions will help children develop skills to play with toys, sing-along to songs, take turns and share.
Speech sessions will help improve intelligibility and target specific age-appropriate sounds that are in error.
The following are offered for in-home services (private pay only):
Informal speech and language screenings to determine current level of function and need for services. Involves play based interactions and/or structured tasks and parent interview.
Initial evaluation session using The Rossetti Infant and Toddler Language Scale. This will include a significant portion of parent interview and at least 10-15 minutes of child observation/interaction. The assessment will help determine what age-range the child is functioning at and give insight into what goals should be set to help increase receptive and expressive language. A written report will be included.
The following services will be offered in day-care settings that have given consent/authorization (private pay only):
A 10-15 minute informal screening to determine if services are recommended. This will include a brief summary of findings.
Megan Reed is a truly gifted and compassionate speech therapist! She is highly attuned to children's needs and is very skilled at gently prompting through lighthearted fun play while remaining genuinely sweet, patient, and respectful. I can't emphasize enough the positive impact she made on our son's development.
Megan is the most professional, reliable, and sweetest speech therapist. My daughter simply adores her because she's made learning so much fun. My daughter enjoys all the fun games and creative ways Megan uses to pull out different sounds. Megan has become a part of our family and is someone everyone looks forward to seeing each week. Megan worked with my daughter in person and over zoom. I would highly recommend Megan and her gentle approach that has given us results, clarity, and confidence.
We were so fortunate to have Megan Reed's expertise as a part of our son's early intervention in speech therapy. Rhett began working with Megan shortly after his diagnosis with Cerebral Palsy, and was significantly delayed in his speaking. He immediately took to her warm, engaging personality, and we believe that the connection they had was instrumental to his success. Megan additionally coached us as parents with targeted strategies to support Rhett's growth, which we greatly appreciated. The planning and preparation that she put into each session was clear, and was geared specifically toward Rhett's needs and personal interests. We could not have hoped for better success for our son in speech therapy, and will be forever grateful for her playing such a valuable role in his development. Thank you, Megan, we don't know what we would have done without you!
My daughter Kevaeh was just 18 months old when she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and hearing loss which affected her speech. Because of her comprehension delay (and being completely mute), I was apprehensive about starting speech therapy when she turned 2. However, after meeting Megan in my home and seeing her interaction with my daughter, I felt completely comfortable and knew she’d be the perfect fit. Megan is professional, sweet, reliable and a fun loving person. She not only set creative and realistic goals when working with my daughter, she also mentored my whole family on how to support my daughters needs in and out of therapy. By the time my daughter was 3 and aged out of therapy for preschool, she went from being completely mute to speaking in short sentences. She’s 6 now, she sings all day long and has full conversations. A few months later, we were fortunate to have Megan back in our home for my youngest daughter Kataleya, who at just 18 months, was diagnosed with significant nonverbal autism and severe sensory processing disorder. Megan did not miss a beat. She came back and went straight to work. She played games, ran creative activities, verbalized different sounds, assisted with eating goals and even taught her sign language. Kataleya is 4 now and knows up to 8 ASL signs. She is also feeding herself, something I wasn’t sure she would ever be able to do. When pandemic hit, Megan allowed my older daughter Kali to shadow her and assist with running therapy sessions over Zoom (which was not an easy task). Because of this she was able to become Kataleyas IHSS provider. She has also learned the necessary skills to be a behavioral therapist, a career path my daughter is now exploring. Megan has always gone above and beyond for my family. Even after moving to another state she assisted with authorization problems and paperwork, something she was not obligated to do. This shows her true character and the love and commitment she has for her clients. The bond Megan built with my daughters is second to none. A connection that was built through constant dedication to her craft which cannot be broken. She was not just their therapist, she was part of our family, their “TiTi Meg”, and they miss her tremendously. We are grateful to have had Megan for 4 years. She played such a valuable role in all my daughters lives and for that I will be forever thankful!
